Information about MANCHESTER England’s third largest city has undergone massive changes over the centuries, but nevertheless it has staunchly maintained its character, and even fancies itself as a rival to London’s attractions! The city is centred around St Peter's Square with its neo-gothic Town Hall. This, along with many other imposing buildings in the area, is testament to Manchester’s heyday during the industrial revolution, and later when it was one of the most important cities in the British Empire. The Imperial War Museum North is an effort to bring one of London’s finest attractions to the provinces and has some impressive audio-visual exhibitions within. Manchester United's Football Ground is just a stone's throw away with its interactive museum and stimulating behind the scenes tour. The Lowry is a spectacular home to the arts and entertainment with a wealth of activity under one roof! Inside this magnificent building you will find two stunning theatres, The Lyric and The Quays, The Lowry Galleries, showcasing changing exhibitions by one of Britain's best loved artists, LS Lowry, as well as paintings, sculpture and photography by artists of local, national and international renown. There are also bars and a restaurant, with magnificent views of the historic Manchester Ship Canal. Add to this the magnificent Bridgewater Hall, home of the Hallé Orchestra and the perfect place to enjoy a mix of classical and modern music, and Manchester can claim to be a cultural paradise. The city is perhaps already well known for its nightlife and social scene. Deansgate Locks Exchange Square, The Triangle, The Royal Exchange Theatre are just some of the places where you’ll find a multitude of bars, cafés and restaurants. Alternatively, the Northern Quarter and Canal Street offer some of the hippest boutiques, bars and clubs in the North. For shoppers, there just are only just enough days in the week! Choose from The Millenium Quarter, The Arndale Centre, Kendal’s, King Street, Affleck’s Place, The Trafford Centre or The Print Works. Finally, Urbis is the world's only building dedicated to the celebration of urban living. With an exterior built entirely of glass this wonderful exhibition takes you on a global voyage from Manchester to Tokyo to Rio.
